(PRWEB) October 28, 2008 — You can teach an old dog new tricks. Entertainment legend Pat Boone has created two new websites to honor his American heroes: the soldiers who serve our country in the National Guard and evangelist Dr. Billy Graham.

Pat created these sites to promote two CDs/DVDs he produced and are near and dear to his heart. His goal is to not only share his vision with millions of Americans, but to donate money from sales of his work to worthy charitable organizations including the Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Samaritans Purse and Mercy Corps.

As part of the program, Pat and his friends will be creating weekly blogs where they will share their thoughts on all sorts of American heroes as well as sharing their vision of America and religion.

For My Country: The History of the National Guard is a stellar visual and musical homage to the “people’s militia” and the nation’s oldest service branch, the 500,000 member National Guard. It includes both an original documentary and an accompanying CD, on which is featured the first Anthem ever created for the National Guard.

Thank You Billy Graham is a star-studded musical tribute to the greatest evangelist of our time, Dr. Billy Graham. Many of the greatest musicians in the world, including Bono, LeAnn Rimes, Faith Hill, Larry, King, Michael McDonald, Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers, Charlie Pride, George Strait and many other musicians and special guests share personal experiences about Billy Graham and join together in this musical tribute to one man who changed our world with one message.

About Pat Boone:
A pop culture icon an entrepreneur, Boone, often called the original “American Idol” after winning a TV talent competition five decades ago, boasts a career that includes six #1 records and more than 45 million records sold, making him the tenth biggest selling rock recording artist of all time. Early Voter Turnout Shows America Is Excited Again

We’ve heard about ACORN and YPM and other organizations that have registered hundreds of thousands of voters over the past couple of months. President Bush has just asked the Justice Department to probe whether or not there has been voter registration fraud in Ohio. Laws have been passed in a handful of states to ensure that only those who live in the United States legally, and are legally registered to vote, will cast their ballot in our upcoming presidential election. And once this all gets sorted out, once voter fraud is identified and those who are registered illegally are not allowed to vote, one thing stands out; Americans are excited about this election. They know what it means to them and to our country.

To those who know me, or think they know me, it will come as no surprise that I believe that John McCain is the best man to run our country for the next four years and I fervently hope that he is our next President. I’m proud to cast my ballot for Senator McCain and Governor Palin.

But what really excites me is that record numbers of voters across the country are casting their ballots before Election Day, either with absentee ballots or in the 32 states that allow early voting. More Americans are expected to vote this year than in any presidential election since I’ve been able to vote, and it’s great that Americans are so interested in our future.

I watch TV and see that in Florida and other states where people are standing in line for two or more hours to cast their vote. Over 1.5 million people have already cast their votes in Florida alone. The experts say that 30% of all votes may be cast before November 4, up from 14% in 2000.

A Gallup pole released Friday found that of all people that have voted nationally, roughly half voted for Senator McCain, the other half for Senator Obama. As a Republican, I’m confident that the vote will be won on Election Day, when Republicans generally turn out to vote in much bigger numbers than Democrats. But as a patriot who loves America, I’m very excited that more people will vote this year than any other time in my lifetime.

God Bless America.

Indiana Corn Maze Salutes the National Guard

We all honor our soldiers in the way we know best. Kid Rock wrote a song called “Warrior.”
I produced a history of the National Guard called “For My Country.”

The Hobson family in Rockville, IN found a very unique way to honor a family member and the Guard by building a seven acre corn maze that includes the Indiana National Guard insignia and the logo of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company 76th Brigade Family Readiness Group.

From what I’ve read, the Hobson family has a cousin, Roger Smith, who serves in the 76th Brigade and wanted to honor him. This is the fifth year that the Hobson’s have built a maze. Last year the design was of an Apache helicopter, honoring a local native that was killed in his helicopter in Afghanistan.

I am constantly amazed at the creativity that Americans have when it comes to celebrating and honoring our heroes, and the Hobson Family is just another example of creating something that their friends, family and neighbors can enjoy while reminding them of the sacrifices that their fellow neighbors make in supporting and defending our great country.

God Bless the Hobson Family: Like the men you salute with your maze, you are true American patriots!

Pat Boone says he’s not sure he belongs in rock hall

Pat Boone

Music Row’s Mike Curb is pushing hard for Pat Boone to be in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, but Pat, 74, says he’s not sure he belongs in there.

“The folks there have all had either nervous breakdowns or drug busts,” he told me, laughing, at an appearance today at the downtown Ernest Tubb Record Shop.

Pat acknowledges he helped launch rock music in the ’50s by doing covers of black artists’ R&B hits.

“I helped it become popular to a far wider audience that was not at all sure they wanted what was called ‘race music’ in their homes,” Pat said.

Pat, who lives in California after calling Nashville home for decades, is back here to sign copies of his new Christmas CD. We’ll have more with him on News 2 at 10.

“Pat Boone pushes rewind, looks back on 50-year career”

As some celebrities weighed the professional risks and rewards of endorsing a presidential candidate this year, Pat Boone reflected on a 50-year career continually infused with political and religious activism.

This came as he researched and wrote his autobiography, Pat Boone’s America — 50 Years, which documents a singing, acting and writing career that resulted in 45 million albums sold, 38 top-40 hits, a network TV show and more than a dozen films.

OAS_AD(‘ArticleFlex_1’);

He returns to his hometown of Nashville today to sign copies of the book, as well as his Christmas album, The True Spirit of Christmas, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop.

Boone, 74, has consistently shown that his white-buck, milk-drinking wholesomeness was no act. In his second film, April Love, he refused to kiss married co-star Shirley Jones for religious reasons. Even though he risked suspension from 20th Century Fox, he refused to star opposite Marilyn Monroe because he would’ve been cast as a high school student in an illicit relationship with an older woman.

“I went in and made the movie that saved the studio after that, Journey to the Center of the Earth, which premiered in Nashville,” he said.

“I’ve always had a feeling, and some people consider it too religious, that God had a hand in my life and was opening doors and giving me opportunities. I wanted to try to make sure that I handled it right, that I was a good steward of the opportunity.”

The pro-lifer recorded “Let Me Live: The Anthem of the Unborn Child” and spoke out against pornography. More recently, he’s written columns for Web sites WorldNetDaily.com and NewsMax.com, where he’s addressed illegal immigration, abortion, the death penalty, public education and the ACLU.

“I find myself, in a way, in the same category as a Jane Fonda or Ed Asner or Susan Sarandon or some of the liberal activists, except I’m 180 degrees in the other direction,” he said.

He said the liberal agenda has been the majority in Hollywood, and at times his opposing stands have negatively affected his career.

“You get stereotyped quickly out here,” he said from his Los Angeles home. “I was up for several movie roles that I would have been really good for. I know I was written off because the folks who do the hiring and firing have their own strong ideological bent. So that has just been a fact of life, and that’s OK. I didn’t come out here, or even go into entertainment, to necessarily be the biggest star. . . . My goal was to try to use my career, whatever it might be, for some good purposes, a means to an end instead of an end to itself.”

Boone’s friend, music executive Mike Curb, said, “I respect people on both sides who are honest about their views, and Pat is one of those who sticks to his views.” READ MORE.

Employers’ role in National Guard, Reserve support praised

Soldiers and airmen of the National Guard and Reserve forces now make up 46 percent of U.S. military forces, and are involved in increasingly complex missions of much longer duration than in the past, a group of Chadron business people were told last week.

“Pat Boone says he should not be in the rock hall of fame”

Yes, that Pat Boone, the conservative Christian who scored big hits with R&B covers in the 1950s, the guy who 11 years ago shocked his longtime fans by making a heavy metal album and showing up at the American Music Awards in black leather. (Go Pat!)

Pat will be in town Tuesday to signs copies of his new CD, The True Spirit of Christmas, from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Ernest Tubb record shop at Broadway and Fourth.

And Pat’s publicist tells me he is just starting to talk to reporters about not being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in Cleveland.

After all, Pat is the guy who covered African-American R&B hits in the ’50s and made them popular to a whole new audience. Many music historians credit Pat with really broadening the popularity of rock music.

That started with a monster 1955 hit with Pat’s version of Fats Domino’s Ain’t That a Shame.

Other big hits that were R&B covers include Tutti Frutti and Long Tall Sally by part-time Tennessean Little Richard, and At My Front Door (Crazy Little Mama) by the El Dorados.

The 74-year-old singer already is in the Gospel hall of fame, and several others, so we’ll see how this campaign to get into the rock hall of fame goes. Read more

Headed Down Nashville Way

Meet Pat Boone

Meet Pat Boone

I’m really looking forward to next week, when I’ll be headed down Nashville way to two events, the Scott Dawson Evangelistic Association Power of One Conference and to meet some of my fans at the Ernest Tubb record store.

For those of you who haven’t been to Ernest Tubbs, it’s one of the great record stores in the country and the best in Nashville. Every Saturday night the Midnight Jamboree is broadcast live from the store, hosted by great country artists including Razzy Bailey, Kathy Mattea and Razzy Bailey. It’s the nations second longest running radio show, broadcast after the Grand Ole Opry on WSM 690.

Shopping at Ernest Tubbs is a fun experience and you can find almost anything there, from early vinyl recordings to the latest CDs and much more. If you’re in the Nashville area, come down and say hello on October 21 from 2 pm – 4 pm, where I’ll be signing my current Christmas CD.
After leaving Ernest Tubbs, I’m headed to the Power of One conference in Sevierville, TN, smack in the middle of the Smoky Mountains. This conference is hosted by the Scott Dawson Evangelistic Association with the goal of spreading the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to everybody.

During the event Dr. Doug Sager and Dr. John Ed Mathison will join Scott for some great preaching along with some inspiring worship lead by the Speck Trio. The great Babbie Mason will be singing one night and I’ll be sharing my testimony and some relevant thoughts the evening of the 22nd.

I hope to see all my Tennessee friends sometime during the week of October 21, either at Ernest Tubbs, the Power of One conference or both.

God Bless.

Supporting the National Guard through Music

I’m not that familiar with Kid Rock. I’ve heard of him, of course, and know he’s a rocker from Detroit who has sung some country music. I know he’s a Midwest guy with Midwest values. And recently someone turned me on to “Warrior,” a music single celebrating the National Guard that has already been viewed over 400,000 times on YouTube. After watching the music video, and even without talking to him, I know Kid Rock is a true American patriot.

I come from a time when most rock singers sang anti-war, and what I considered anti-American songs, especially during the Vietnam War. I can’t tell you how excited and invigorated I am that a popular rock singer has created such as fantastic pro-American song and is supporting the National Guard. The idea gives me goose bumps and puts a smile on my face.

Watching the video, I get a distinct understanding of how much Kid Rock loves this country and loves those who defend our country. While watching the video phrases such as “I will never accept defeat,” “I give all of myself,” “I am a member of a team” and “I am the guardian of freedom” speak directly to me, to all patriotic Americans and to all of the brave men and women who are giving up so much of their personal lives to represent the best country in the world.

I worked with the National Guard to produce their definitive DVD history and applaud Kid Rock for producing this song and showing young people that it’s brave and appropriate to join the Guard and serve their country. Hopefully this song and video will encourage more young people to do what’s right for both themselves and their country.

We are all warriors in our own way. Take a look at the lyrics and watch Kid Rock’s video and “For My Country: The History of the National Guard,” and together we’ll “take a stand toward the promised land.”

WARRIOR
I could see the city lights, then they turned to black
Then I heard the sirens sounding out
I could see the rockets glare, shooting in the night
Everyone was paying for their lives

Am I dreaming?
I don’t believe it
Am I wrong or right?
Then I heard a voice say in the night

I’m a warrior – take my hand
Let me lead you to the promised land
I’m a warrior- take my hand
Side by side we’ll make our final stand

Then I saw this blinding light – I heard a sonic boom
I could feal the earth shake in the doom
Then a silence filled the air, I could not hear a sound
I could see the ashes all around

Am I dreaming?
I don’t believe it
In the dead of night
I could hear the voice that showed me life

I’m a warrior – take my hand
Let me lead you to the promised land
I’m a warrior- take my hand
Side by side we’ll make our final stand
I’m a warrior

I’m a warrior – take my hand
Let me lead you to the promised land
I’m a warrior- take my hand
Side by side we’ll make our final stand
I’m a warrior

Billy Graham To Turn 90: Public Invited To Send Birthday Wishes

Evangelist Billy Graham

Evangelist Billy Graham

“Jesus Himself promised “greater things than these shall you do.” How could that be possible? Well, Billy Graham has preached in person to Two Hundred and Fifteen Million people in his fifty-plus year ministry! And that doesn’t even include television, radio and print media. The best part — he’s always pointing simply to Jesus, our Lord and Savior, who can take the “new creation” through this life and into eternity. I truly believe there has been no greater human being on this earth since Jesus Himself.

Thank you Billy Graham!”
